If you have solid top shoes or boots then it’s best to wear them. If you have gloves, safety glasses and ear protection please bring them, otherwise we can provide those items if needed. wear clothes that can get dirty, metal work is a “dirty job”! If you have a leather apron, it’s a great fashion here in the forge. If you have tools you would like to bring or a specific project you want to accomplish, we welcome that also. Please call or email if you want to attend as we like to limit the number of people for safety reasons.

Hammering Around

This is a one-time class offered for people to come and see if they’re interested in learning more. There will be a basic safety class introduction, then with the help of instructors, students will have time to create a small knife or bangle using the forges, power hammers, grinders and any other tool they might want to give a try and just – hammer around! It’s a great time to figure out whether fire is your thing and if you want to do more of it and take the next class or go get a pizza.

Intro to Blacksmithing

This three part class takes the novice from a classroom setting learning such topics as properties of various types of metals and safety while working with them to the creation of a project of their choice using the forges, power hammers and equipment available at the Forge. Participants must be able to be present all three sessions to get the most out of this class.

Hammer Time

Hammer Time is one of the great benefits of taking classes at The Forge. Once a student has completed one of The Forge classes, they are then eligible to sign up for the listed Hammer Time dates for $20.00 an hour and work on their own stuff at their own pace. Blacksmiths will be around to assist – but this is mostly a self-motivated and self-guided work session.
